Maharana Pratap Jayanti is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Jyestha month every year according to the Vikram Samvat calendar. His name is immortal for valor and determination in history.

Reason Behind Celebrating Maharana Pratap Jayanti –

Maharana Pratap Singh, the great king of Mewar, is honored for his courage and valor. Thus, in the name of his bravery and fearlessness, his birth anniversary is celebrated on his birthday. Let us tell you the main reason behind celebrating Maharana Pratap Jayanti.

Maharana Pratap was born in a Hindu Rajput family in Kumbhalgarh. His father’s name was Uday Singh II and his mother’s name was Jaiwanta Bai. He had 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

After the death of Maharaja Udai Singh in 1572, Queen Dheer Bai wanted her son Jagmal to succeed him, but senior courtiers preferred Pratap as their king.

Coronation –

Maharana Pratap was crowned at Gogunda in Mewar. The capital of his kingdom was Udaipur and the state border was Mewar.

After the death of Uday Singh, the Rajputs placed Maharana Pratap on the throne of Mewar in 1628 Phalgun Shukla 15 i.e. on 1 March 1576.

Battle of Haldighati –

Battle of haldighati

The battle of Haldighati was the biggest battle in Mewar’s history. The battle of Haldighati was fought on 18 June 1576 between the Rana of our Mewar, Maharana Pratap, and the Mughal Emperor Akbar.

Akbar’s army was led by Mansingh and the battle was fought between horsemen and archers.

How long a handful of Rajputs would have stood in front of Akbar’s vast army, but this did not happen and this war went on for a full day and the Rajputs gave a tough fight to the Mughals.

The biggest thing is that Maharana Pratap’s army repulsed the Mughal forces. Was forced to withdraw and the Mughal army started fleeing.

Maharana Pratap was a warrior who devoted his entire life to recapture Chittor from the Mughals. Haldighati was a fruitless victory for the Mughals or according to Historians, there was no victory in this war.

But if seen, Maharana Pratap Singh won this war., as the Mughals were unable to capture Maharana Pratap or any of his family members.

Chetak maharana pratap

Chetak was the name of the most loved and famous horse of Maharana Pratap. Chetak showed his unique loyalty, intelligence, and bravery in the battle of Haldighati.

Even after being badly injured in the battle, he managed to get Maharana Pratap out of the safe battlefield, he got a rainwater drain, and finally, he sacrificed his life for his god Pratap.

Later Chetak Smarak was built for remembering Chetak’s sacrifice and in his honor which is also called Chetak Samadhi.

In 1597, Maharana Pratap was seriously injured in a hunting accident. He died on 29 January 1597 at the age of 56. He sacrificed while fighting for Mewar, for the people, and his honor.

Thus, in the name of his bravery and fearlessness, Maharana Pratap Jayanti is celebrated with great pomp throughout India and especially in Mewar on his birthday.

Normally, every year a Havan is held at the Maharana Pratap Memorial on top of Moti Magri or Pearl Hill in our city Udaipur. There are grand processions in our city Udaipur and throughout Rajasthan.

We cannot go out now due to COVID-19 Lockdown, so this year we could not celebrate his birth anniversary like every year, but we can remember him and honor his battles and struggles.

Maharana Pratap’s name is written in golden letters in history. So on this Pratap Jayanti, bow to such a hero.

and finally, we wish every Udaipur citizen a very happy Pratap Jayanti by sharing some great sayings for remembering the great Maharana Pratap Singh.
